JOB TITLE: Courier

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Courier Services Manager this position performs non-technical laboratory tasks such as stocking of lab materials, providing courier services locally and in surrounding counties, and assisting in maintaining the overall efficiency of the lab.

Employment is contingent upon completion and satisfactory results of a background check and drug screen as well as our vehicle insurance carrier’s approval and acceptance of your current State of Washington Motor Vehicle Record. Individuals who have four or more minor violations/accidents in the past three years, or more than one major violation in the past five years will NOT be accepted.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs courier services including specimen pick-up, report and client supplies delivery.
  • Reviews requisitions and specimens for completeness at time of pick-up and interacts professionally with client office and clinical staff as appropriate to obtain any discrepant information.
  • Provides administrative support to NWP leadership team, laboratory staff and physicians as needed.
  • Assists the department with service, and maintenance of NWP vehicles.
  • Maintains the department(s) in a professional manner, including cleaning and restocking supplies.
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment, supplies and assigned work area.
  • Maintains professional attitude and appearance at all times.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of driving experience required; prior courier or professional driving preferred.

JOB TITLE: Coder – 3 Levels

Job Summary

Assigns and audits medical codes for procedures and services performed by physicians and other qualified healthcare providers in the laboratory, office, hospital or other facility letting.

This position primarily works remote from a home based office with requirement to work in a company facility/office as business needs dictate. Individual must possess ability to effectively work from home remotely e.g. separate and secure office space, no distractions/interruptions, strong internet bandwidth service and proficient technical aptitude which includes experience with installation of computer equipment, use of various software/digital platforms, troubleshooting, etc.

Northwest operates on a 24/7/365 basis; individual may be required to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Schedule flexibility with and without advanced notice is required.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assign accurate CPT, ICD10 and modifiers on patient charts and in the billing system
  • Provide accurate answers to queries on coding
  • Review all rejected claims when the rejection pertains to ICD-10, CPT or HCPCS coding

JOB TITLE: COVID-19 Testing Site Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Molecular
STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Molecular Lab Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Overall responsibility for supervision and oversight of NWP-NWL COVID-19 Testing Sites to ensure appropriate staffing, training, site readiness/management, and, support.  This position also spearheads and is accountable for all activities related to the successful launch of new drive-through testing sites. Utilizes strong organizational, supervisory and patient interaction skills. Individuals will need to keep up with a fast-paced work environment while remaining professional and capable of continuing to practice all safety protocols. It is important that individuals have basic computer skills and spatial awareness in order to keep themselves and patients safe in the drive-through.

This position requires the following:

  • Ability to travel between multiple testing site locations with and without notice.
  • Ability to walk, stand and sit interchangeably for long periods of time.
  • Ability to withstand working outdoors and handling temperature extremes and/or inclement weather.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE – mask, gloves, etc.) for long periods of time

JOB TITLE: Drive-Through Testing Specialist – Certified
DEPARTMENT: COVID-19 Testing Site

Job Summary

This position requires CMA, CNA, EMT, LPN, Phlebotomist and/or RN to serve as COVID-19 testers in the Northwest Laboratory drive-through clinic. Testers will gather samples for COVID testing by performing a nasal swab on drive-through patients. Utilizes strong organizational and patient interaction skills. Individuals will need to keep up with a fast-paced work environment while remaining professional and capable of continuing to practice all safety protocols. It is important that individuals have basic computer skills and spatial awareness in order to keep themselves and patients safe in the drive-through.

This position requires the following:

  • Ability to walk, stand and sit interchangeably for long periods of time.
  • Ability to withstand working outdoors and handling temperature extremes and/or inclement weather.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE – mask, gloves, etc.) for long periods of time

The Drive-Through Testing Specialist – Certified position will primarily perform nasal swab, nasopharyngeal swab, and/or facilitate saliva collection on drive-through patients.  However, they will be assigned to other duties as listed below depending on staffing availability and client volumes.

  • Open and close of drive-thru testing site 
  • Educate patients on completion of appropriate paperwork and sample collection technique.
  • Provide excellent patient service and support.
  • Checking people in for an appointment and directing walk ins
  • Ability to execute proper collection process and effective communication with patients or care takers
  • Perform nasal swab, nasopharyngeal swab, or facilitate saliva collection on drive-through patients.
  • Tracking and reporting key data points
  • Participate in training/retraining and continuing education programs as necessary
  • Comply with all designated safety policies and procedures in the work area, including the use of applicable protective equipment when necessary to prevent exposure to potentially infectious agents

JOB SUMMARY

The Lab Assistant 1 will coordinate and perform tasks and activities in the pre-analytical departments of the Clinical Laboratory. Depending upon the area of responsibility the Lab Assistant will monitor the status of the workflow of the tasks involved and shall prioritize each task, coordinate performance of tasks by other techs, and report frequently and directly to the Laboratory Assistant Supervisor about completion of tasks. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Lab Assistants will be assigned to one or more of the following areas depending on staffing availability and clinical laboratory volumes.  The lab assistant in this position will primarily work as a phlebotomist at the NWL Mt. Vernon Patient Service Center.

Phlebotomy: 

  • Inspires confidence from patients and visitors by performing and communicating in a professional manner.
  • Is able to perform phlebotomy and collection of specimens from all ages of patients.
  • Ensures that orders for blood draws are routed in order of priority as received.
  • Prepares laboratory test requisitions for outpatients from physician orders using laboratory information system (accessioning duties will fall under all departments).
  • Maintains competencies in phlebotomy procedures and specimen requirements
  • Helps ensure that all new phlebotomists are adequately oriented and that training is documented for the tasks required
  • Monitors integrity of patient specimen collection processes and reports any abnormalities to Lab Assistant Supervisor
  • Maintains that phlebotomy supplies are adequately stocked and that all facility areas are in proper condition with regard to equipment and cleanliness
  • Shares appropriate communication with other laboratory personnel involving difficult Venipuncture, timed specimens, tasks at hand, etc.
  • Enforces and follows all laboratory safety rules, chemical safety hazards, and reports any possible hazards to the Lab Assistant Supervisor

Clinical Specimen Processing:

  • Accessions, labels, and preparation of clinical laboratory specimens for in house testing as well as send-out testing to our designated reference laboratories.
  • Maintains that all aspects of processing and handling of all specimens referred out (routine and esoteric) are carried out in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner
  • Researches specimen requirements for reference labs and arranges for critical specimen handling and complex transportation arrangements when needed.
  • Tracks specimen resulting status and enters results into LIS as received from reference laboratories.
  • Refers to appropriate policy and procedure manuals as necessary and communicates with reference labs for proper specimen requirements
    Under the supervision and direction of a medical technologist performs test processing in certain areas of the clinical lab which may or may not include the following:
    1. Various duties in microbiology which may include routine culture setup, preparation of samples for Ova and Parasite studies, setting up MIC’s, logging patient demographics into computer
    2. Logging and distribution of patient test specimens from the processing areas in the lab to the respective test areas
    3. Point of Care and waived testing, as required.
  • Keeps the Lab Assistant Supervisor informed of the malfunctioning of any lab equipment
  • Processes all laboratory test requisitions and specimens quickly, efficiently, and appropriately
  • Assists other laboratory personnel as workload permits without being requested to do so
  • Consistently determines proper priorities when organizing daily tasks and is able to adjust schedule in view of STAT’s

Cytology Specimen Processing:

  • Accessioning, labeling, and preparation of gynecological specimens.
  • Assists pathologists and cytotechnologists on hospital procedures and in house bone marrows and keeping the staining kits supplied.
  • Process gynecological and conventional specimens utilizing the specimen brand specific processing equipment.
  • Process non-gynecological specimens utilizing direct smears, cytospins, and specimen brand specific techniques.
  • Stains and coverslips Pap smears and Non-Gyn slides.
  • Maintains cytology stain line.
  • Assists in cytology equipment service and maintenance.
  • Maintains the department in a professional manner, including cleaning and restocking supplies, washing dishes and handling hazardous waste disposal.

Job Summary

This is a support position and duties vary from day to day based on the needs of the laboratory.  Duties will include collation and distribution of case material, reagent preparation, equipment cleaning/maintenance, laboratory dish washing, waste handling, data entry, inventory maintenance, assisting with incoming specimen receipt and other support functions.

Reagent Preparation 

  • Understand hazardous chemical labeling and handling requirements

Education/Certification/License

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • An earned associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution,

  • Education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution.  This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination
  • HT or HTL (ASCP) certified, registry eligible or relevant experience preferred
  • Active and valid US State-Issued Driver’s License Driver’s License with acceptable motor vehicle record as defined and approved by NWP-NWL vehicle insurance carrier.
